wifi: rtlwifi: Move code from rtl8192de to rtl8192d-common Create the new module rtl8192d-common and move some code into it from rtl8192de. Now the rtl8192de driver (PCI) and the new rtl8192du driver (USB) can share some of the code. This is mostly the code that required little effort to make it shareable. There are a few more functions which they could share, with more changes. Add phy_iq_calibrate member to struct rtl_hal_ops to allow moving the TX power tracking code from dm.c. The other changes in this patch are adjusting whitespace, renaming some functions, making some arrays const, and making checkpatch.pl less unhappy. rtl8192de is compile-tested only. rtl8192d-common is tested with the new rtl8192du driver. wifi: rtlwifi: rtl8192cu: Fix TX aggregation rtl8192cu is checking rtl_mac.tids when deciding if it should enable aggregation. This is wrong because rtl_mac.tids is not initialised anywhere. Check rtl_sta_info.tids instead, which is initialised. Also, when enabling aggregation also enable RTS. The vendor driver does this, my router does this. It seems like the thing to do. Also also, it seems right to set the AMPDU density only when enabling aggregation. Also also also, delete the unused member rtl_mac.tids and the unused macros RTL_AGG_ON and RTL_AGG_OFF. Naturally, with working AMPDU the download/upload speeds are better. Before: 59/32 Mbps. After: 68/46 Mbps. wifi: rtlwifi: rtl_usb: Store the endpoint addresses And use the stored addresses in rtl8192cu instead of hardcoding them. This is what the vendor drivers do. Perhaps this is not strictly necessary for RTL8192CU devices. However, the dual mac version of RTL8192DU has two USB interfaces, each with its own set of endpoints. Hardcoding their addresses in the upcoming rtl8192du driver would require making some assumptions which I'm not qualified to make. wifi: rtlwifi: Speed up firmware loading for USB Currently it takes almost 6 seconds to upload the firmware for RTL8192CU (and 11 seconds for RTL8192DU). That's because the firmware is uploaded one byte at a time. Also, after plugging the device, the firmware gets uploaded three times before a connection to the AP is established. Maybe this is fine for most users, but when testing changes to the driver it's really annoying to wait so long. Speed up the firmware upload by writing chunks of 64 bytes at a time. This way it takes about 110 ms for RTL8192CU (and about 210 ms for RTL8192DU). PCI devices could upload it in chunks of 4 bytes, but I don't have any to test and commit 89d32c9071aa ("rtlwifi: Download firmware as bytes rather than as dwords") decided otherwise anyway. Allocate memory for the firmware image with kmalloc instead of vzalloc because this memory is passed directly to usb_control_msg(), which can't take memory allocated by vmalloc. wifi: rtlwifi: rtl_usb: Use sync register writes Currently rtl_usb performs register writes using the async usb_submit_urb() function. This appears to work fine for the RTL8192CU, but the RTL8192DU (soon to be supported by rtlwifi) has a problem: it transmits everything at the 1M rate in the 2.4 GHz band. (The 5 GHz band is still untested.) With this patch, rtl_usb performs the register writes using the synchronous usb_control_msg() function, and the RTL8192DU works normally. The RTL8192CU still works. The vendor drivers use the async writes in only one function, rtl8192du_trigger_gpio_0 / rtl8192cu_trigger_gpio_0, which probably doesn't even run in real life. They use sync writes everywhere else. Also, remove "sync" and "async" from the names of the members of struct rtl_io to avoid confusion: write{8,16,32}_async -> write{8,16,32} read{8,16,32}_sync -> read{8,16,32} Signed-off-by: Bitterblue Smith <rtl8821cerfe2@gmail.com> Acked-by: Ping-Ke Shih <pkshih@realtek.com> Signed-off-by: Kalle Valo <kvalo@kernel.org> Link: https://msgid.link/fb71bae6-8b19-4b6e-b4a6-0d260f2139e1@gmail.com

net: rtlwifi: Remove void* casts related to delayed work INIT_DELAYED_WORK() takes two arguments: A pointer to the delayed work and a function reference for the callback. The rtl code casts all function references to (void *) because the callbacks in use are not matching the required function signature. That's error prone and bad pratice. Some of the callback functions are also global, but only used in a single file. Clean the mess up by: - Adding the proper arguments to the callback functions and using them in the container_of() constructs correctly which removes the hideous container_of_dwork_rtl() macro as well. - Removing the type cast at the initializers - Making the unnecessary global functions static Signed-off-by: Sebastian Andrzej Siewior <bigeasy@linutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Acked-by: Kalle Valo <kvalo@codeaurora.org> Signed-off-by: David S. wireless: realtek: Replace zero-length array with flexible-array member The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by this change: "Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1] This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle. scripts/spelling.txt: drop "sepc" from the misspelling list The RISC-V architecture has a register named the "Supervisor Exception Program Counter", or "sepc". This abbreviation triggers checkpatch.pl's misspelling detector, resulting in noise in the checkpatch output. rtlwifi: support accurate nullfunc frame tx ack report In order to realize the keep-alive mechanism in mac80211 stack, reporting accurate tx ack status for nullfunc frame is added in this commit. If current frame is nullfunc frame, we ask firmware to report by filling TX report bit in TX descriptor. After this frame DMA done, TX interrupt is triggered but TX status is unknown at this moment, so enqueue this skb into tx_report->queue. Finally, C2H report will be received if the frame is transmitted successfully or retried over, and then we report to mac80211 with IEEE80211_TX_STAT_ACK flag only if it's successful. Otherwise, if failure or timeout (one second), we report to mac80211 without this flag. rtlwifi: cleanup 8723be ant_sel definition Some HP laptops have only a single wifi antenna. This would not be a problem except that they were shipped with an incorrectly encoded EFUSE. It should have been possible to open the computer and transfer the antenna connection to the other terminal except that such action might void the warranty, and moving the antenna broke the Windows driver. The fix was to add a module option that would override the EFUSE encoding. That was done with commit c18d8f509571 ("rtlwifi: rtl8723be: Add antenna select module parameter"). There was still a problem with Bluetooth coexistence, which was addressed with commit baa170229095 ("rtlwifi: btcoexist: Implement antenna selection"). There were still problems, thus there were commit 0ff78adeef11 ("rtlwifi: rtl8723be: fix ant_sel code") and commit 6d6226928369 ("rtlwifi: btcoexist: Fix antenna selection code"). Despite all these attempts at fixing the problem, the code is not yet right. A proper fix is important as there are now instances of laptops having RTL8723DE chips with the same problem. The module parameter ant_sel is used to control antenna number and path. At present enum ANT_{X2,X1} is used to define the antenna number, but this choice is not intuitive, thus change to a new enum ANT_{MAIN,AUX} to make it more readable. This change showed examples where incorrect values were used. It was also possible to remove a workaround in halbtcoutsrc.c. The experimental results with single antenna connected to specific path are now as follows: ant_sel ANT_MAIN(#1) ANT_AUX(#2) 0 -8 -62 1 -62 -10 2 -6 -60 Signed-off-by: Ping-Ke Shih <pkshih@realtek.com> Fixes: c18d8f509571 ("rtlwifi: rtl8723be: Add antenna select module parameter") Fixes: baa170229095 ("rtlwifi: btcoexist: Implement antenna selection") Fixes: 0ff78adeef11 ("rtlwifi: rtl8723be: fix ant_sel code") Fixes: 6d6226928369 ("rtlwifi: btcoexist: Fix antenna selection code") Cc: Stable <stable@vger.kernel.org> # 4.7+ Reviewed-by: Larry Finger <Larry.Finger@lwfinger.net> Signed-off-by: Kalle Valo <kvalo@codeaurora.org>

rtlwifi: rtl8821ae: Fix connection lost problem correctly There has been a coding error in rtl8821ae since it was first introduced, namely that an 8-bit register was read using a 16-bit read in _rtl8821ae_dbi_read(). This error was fixed with commit 40b368af4b75 ("rtlwifi: Fix alignment issues"); however, this change led to instability in the connection. To restore stability, this change was reverted in commit b8b8b16352cd ("rtlwifi: rtl8821ae: Fix connection lost problem"). Unfortunately, the unaligned access causes machine checks in ARM architecture, and we were finally forced to find the actual cause of the problem on x86 platforms. Following a suggestion from Pkshih <pkshih@realtek.com>, it was found that increasing the ASPM L1 latency from 0 to 7 fixed the instability. This parameter was varied to see if a smaller value would work; however, it appears that 7 is the safest value. A new symbol is defined for this quantity, thus it can be easily changed if necessary. The new ops are named with suffix '_wifi_only' opposited to original btc_ops, and new structures and definitions are also introduced. The wifi_only oly contains four ops that are initial variable, hw config, scan notify, and switch band notify. rtlwifi: Use mutex to replace spin_lock to protect IPS and LPS Enter/leavel IPS and LPS are large critical section, and they can't use sleep function because running in atomic-context, which own a spin_lock. In commit ba9f93f82aba ("rtlwifi: Fix enter/exit power_save"), it moves LPS functions to thread-context, so this commit can simply change LPS's spin lock to mutex. Considering IPS functions, rtl_ips_nic_on() may be called by TX tasklet (softirq-context) that check whether packet is auth frame. Fortunately, current mac80211 will ask driver to leave IPS using op_config with changed flag IEEE80211_CONF_CHANGE_IDLE, before issuing auth frame, so IPS functions can run in thread-context and use mutex to protect critical section, too. Also, this commit removes some useless spin locks. Signed-off-by: Ping-Ke Shih <pkshih@realtek.com> Signed-off-by: Kalle Valo <kvalo@codeaurora.org>

rtlwifi: Improve debugging by using debugfs Use debugfs to dump register and btcoex status, and also write registers and h2c. We create topdir in /sys/kernel/debug/rtlwifi/, and use the MAC address as subdirectory with several entries to dump mac_reg, bb_reg, rf_reg etc. An example is /sys/kernel/debug/rtlwifi/00-11-22-33-44-55-66/mac_0 This change permits examination of device registers in a dynamic manner, a feature not available with the current debug mechanism. rtlwifi: rtl8192cu: Convert driver to use common macros These drivers use a set of complicated macros to extract and insert information for the RX and TX descriptors. Driver rtl8192cu had a different set than was used for the PCI-based drivers. To simplify the code, rtl8192cu is switched to use the common version. In the process, two errors in those common macros were found and fixed. Besides simplifying the code, there is an additional benefit. We have no BE hardware to test the PCI driver, but using the common macros provides an additional test for the validity of many endian-sensitive operations. The debug routines have also been changed to interrogate the structure that is loaded at entry time. As a result, the structure rtl_debug is no longer needed, and all references to it are deleted. rtlwifi: Fix regression caused by commit d86e64768859 In commit d86e64768859 ("rtlwifi: rtl818x: constify local structures"), the configuration struct for most of the drivers was changed to be constant. The problem is that five of the modified drivers need to be able to update the firmware name based on the exact model of the card. As the file names were stored in one of the members of that struct, these drivers would fail with a kernel BUG splat when they tried to update the firmware name. Rather than reverting the previous commit, I used a suggestion by Johannes Berg and made the firmware file name pointers be local to the routines that update the software variables. The configuration struct of rtl8192cu, which was not touched in the previous patch, is now constantfied. cfg80211: remove enum ieee80211_band This enum is already perfectly aliased to enum nl80211_band, and the only reason for it is that we get IEEE80211_NUM_BANDS out of it. There's no really good reason to not declare the number of bands in nl80211 though, so do that and remove the cfg80211 one. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com>

rtlwifi: rtl8723be: Add antenna select module parameter A number of new laptops have been delivered with only a single antenna. In principle, this is OK; however, a problem arises when the on-board EEPROM is programmed to use the other antenna connection. The option of opening the computer and moving the connector is not always possible as it will void the warranty in some cases. In addition, this solution breaks the Windows driver when the box dual boots Linux and Windows. A fix involving a new module parameter has been developed. This commit adds the new parameter and implements the changes needed for the driver. rtlwifi: pass struct rtl_stats by reference as it is more efficient passing rtl_stats by value is inefficient; the structure is over 300 bytes in size and generally just one field (packet_report_type) is being accessed, so the pass by value is a relatively large overhead. This change just affects just the rx_command_packet calls.
