net: bcmgenet: synchronize UMAC_CMD access The UMAC_CMD register is written from different execution contexts and has insufficient synchronization protections to prevent possible corruption. Of particular concern are the acceses from the phy_device delayed work context used by the adjust_link call and the BH context that may be used by the ndo_set_rx_mode call. A spinlock is added to the driver to protect contended register accesses (i.e. reg_lock) and it is used to synchronize accesses to UMAC_CMD. net: bcmgenet: Reset RBUF on first open If the RBUF logic is not reset when the kernel starts then there may be some data left over from any network boot loader. If the 64-byte packet headers are enabled then this can be fatal. Extend bcmgenet_dma_disable to do perform the reset, but not when called from bcmgenet_resume in order to preserve a wake packet. N.B. This different handling of resume is just based on a hunch - why else wouldn't one reset the RBUF as well as the TBUF? If this isn't the case then it's easy to change the patch to make the RBUF reset unconditional. net: bcmgenet: remove eee_enabled/eee_active in bcmgenet_get_eee() bcmgenet_get_eee() sets edata->eee_active and edata->eee_enabled from its own copy, and then calls phy_ethtool_get_eee() which in turn will call genphy_c45_ethtool_get_eee(). genphy_c45_ethtool_get_eee() will overwrite eee_enabled and eee_active with its own interpretation from the PHYs settings and negotiation result. Therefore, setting these members in bcmgenet_get_eee() is redundant, and can be removed. This also makes priv->eee.eee_active unnecessary, so remove this and use a local variable where appropriate. ethtool: replace struct ethtool_eee with a new struct ethtool_keee on kernel side In order to pass EEE link modes beyond bit 32 to userspace we have to complement the 32 bit bitmaps in struct ethtool_eee with linkmode bitmaps. Therefore, similar to ethtool_link_settings and ethtool_link_ksettings, add a struct ethtool_keee. In a first step it's an identical copy of ethtool_eee. This patch simply does a s/ethtool_eee/ethtool_keee/g for all users. No functional change intended. net: bcmgenet: Fix FCS generation for fragmented skbuffs The flag DMA_TX_APPEND_CRC was only written to the first DMA descriptor in the TX path, where each descriptor corresponds to a single skbuff fragment (or the skbuff head). This led to packets with no FCS appearing on the wire if the kernel allocated the packet in fragments, which would always happen when using PACKET_MMAP/TPACKET (cf. tpacket_fill_skb() in net/af_packet.c). net: ethernet: broadcom: Convert to platform remove callback returning void The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() is renamed to .remove(). Trivially convert these drivers from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. net: bcmgenet: hide status block before TX timestamping The hardware checksum offloading requires use of a transmit status block inserted before the outgoing frame data, this was updated in '9a9ba2a4aaaa ("net: bcmgenet: always enable status blocks")' However, skb_tx_timestamp() assumes that it is passed a raw frame and PTP parsing chokes on this status block. Fix this by calling __skb_pull(), which hides the TSB before calling skb_tx_timestamp(), so an outgoing PTP packet is parsed correctly. As the data in the skb has already been set up for DMA, and the dma_unmap_* calls use a separately stored address, there is no no effective change in the data transmission. This itself seems a bit sketchy, but the real problem with GCC12 is that it is moving the actual reads/writes around at will as though they were independent operations when in truth they are not, but the compiler can't know that. When looking at the assembly dumps for many of these routines its possible to see very clean, but not strictly in program order operations occurring as the compiler would be free to do if these weren't actually register reads/write operations. Its possible to suppress the timeout with a liberal bit of dma_mb()'s sprinkled around but the device still seems unable to reliably send/receive data. A better plan is to use the safer readl/writel everywhere. Since this partially reverts an older commit, which notes the use of the relaxed variants for performance reasons. I would suggest that any performance problems with this commit are targeted at relaxing only the performance critical code paths after assuring proper barriers. net: bcmgenet: Add support for 7712 16nm internal EPHY The 16nm internal EPHY that is present in 7712 is actually a 16nm Gigabit PHY which has been forced to operate in 10/100 mode. Its controls are therefore via the EXT_GPHY_CTRL registers and not via the EXT_EPHY_CTRL which are used for all GENETv5 adapters. Add a match on the 7712 compatible string to allow that differentiation to happen. On previous GENETv4 chips the EXT_CFG_IDDQ_GLOBAL_PWR bit was cleared by default, but this is not the case with this chip, so we need to make sure we clear it to power on the EPHY. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. net: bcmgenet: ensure EXT_ENERGY_DET_MASK is clear Setting the EXT_ENERGY_DET_MASK bit allows the port energy detection logic of the internal PHY to prevent the system from sleeping. Some internal PHYs will report that energy is detected when the network interface is closed which can prevent the system from going to sleep if WoL is enabled when the interface is brought down. Since the driver does not support waking the system on this logic, this commit clears the bit whenever the internal PHY is powered up and the other logic for manipulating the bit is removed since it serves no useful function. net: bcmgenet: use hardware padding of runt frames When commit 474ea9cafc45 ("net: bcmgenet: correctly pad short packets") added the call to skb_padto() it should have been located before the nr_frags parameter was read since that value could be changed when padding packets with lengths between 55 and 59 bytes (inclusive). The use of a stale nr_frags value can cause corruption of the pad data when tx-scatter-gather is enabled. This corruption of the pad can cause invalid checksum computation when hardware offload of tx-checksum is also enabled. Since the original reason for the padding was corrected by commit 7dd399130efb ("net: bcmgenet: fix skb_len in bcmgenet_xmit_single()") we can remove the software padding all together and make use of hardware padding of short frames as long as the hardware also always appends the FCS value to the frame. net: bcmgenet: Move wake-up event out of side band ISR The side band interrupt service routine is not available on chips like 7211, or rather, it does not permit the signaling of wake-up events due to the complex interrupt hierarchy. Move the wake-up event accounting into a .resume_noirq function, account for possible wake-up events and clear the MPD/HFB interrupts from there, while leaving the hardware untouched until the resume function proceeds with doing its usual business. Because bcmgenet_wol_power_down_cfg() now enables the MPD and HFB interrupts, it is invoked by a .suspend_noirq function to prevent the servicing of interrupts after the clocks have been disabled. net: bcmgenet: move clk_wol management to bcmgenet_wol The GENET_POWER_WOL_MAGIC power up and power down code configures the device for WoL when suspending and disables the WoL logic when resuming. It makes sense that this code should also manage the WoL clocking. This commit consolidates the logic and moves it earlier in the resume sequence. Since the clock is now only enabled if WoL is successfully entered the wol_active flag is introduced to track that state to keep the clock enables and disables balanced in case a suspend is aborted. The MPD_EN hardware bit can't be used because it can be cleared when the MAC is reset by a deep sleep. net: bcmgenet: suppress warnings on failed Rx SKB allocations The driver is designed to drop Rx packets and reclaim the buffers when an allocation fails, and the network interface needs to safely handle this packet loss. Therefore, an allocation failure of Rx SKBs is relatively benign. However, the output of the warning message occurs with a high scheduling priority that can cause excessive jitter/latency for other high priority processing. This commit suppresses the warning messages to prevent scheduling problems while retaining the failure count in the statistics of the network interface. net: bcmgenet: always enable status blocks The hardware offloading of the NETIF_F_HW_CSUM and NETIF_F_RXCSUM features requires the use of Transmit Status Blocks before transmit frame data and Receive Status Blocks before receive frame data to carry the checksum information. Unfortunately, these status blocks are currently only enabled when the NETIF_F_HW_CSUM feature is enabled. As a result NETIF_F_RXCSUM will not actually be offloaded to the hardware unless both it and NETIF_F_HW_CSUM are enabled. Fortunately, that is the default configuration. This commit addresses this issue by always enabling the use of status blocks on both transmit and receive frames. Further, it replaces the use of a dedicated flag within the driver private data structure with direct use of the netdev features flags. net: bcmgenet: keep MAC in reset until PHY is up As noted in commit 28c2d1a7a0bf ("net: bcmgenet: enable loopback during UniMAC sw_reset") the UniMAC must be clocked at least 5 cycles while the sw_reset is asserted to ensure a clean reset. That commit enabled local loopback to provide an Rx clock from the GENET sourced Tx clk. However, when connected in MII mode the Tx clk is sourced by the PHY so if an EPHY is not supplying clocks (e.g. when the link is down) the UniMAC does not receive the necessary clocks. This commit extends the sw_reset window until the PHY reports that the link is up thereby ensuring that the clocks are being provided to the MAC to produce a clean reset. One consequence is that if the system attempts to enter a Wake on LAN suspend state when the PHY link has not been active the MAC may not have had a chance to initialize cleanly. In this case, we remove the sw_reset and enable the WoL reception path as normal with the hope that the PHY will provide the necessary clocks to drive the WoL blocks if the link becomes active after the system has entered suspend. The vast majority are people debugging problems unrelated to this adapter, or bragging about their rpi's. Further, the DT clock bindings here are optional. Given that its not a fatal situation with common DT based systems, lets reduce the severity so people aren't seeing failure messages in everyday operation. net: bcmgenet: Fetch MAC address from the adapter ARM/ACPI machines should utilize self describing hardware when possible. The MAC address on the BCMGENET can be read from the adapter if a full featured firmware has already programmed it. Lets try using the address already programmed, if it appears to be valid. It should be noted that while we move the macaddr logic below the clock and power logic in the driver, none of that code will ever be active in an ACPI environment as the device will be attached to the acpi power domain, and brought to full power with all clocks enabled immediately before the device probe routine is called. One side effect of the above tweak is that while its now possible to read the MAC address via _DSD properties, it should be avoided. To achieve this we add a new MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE, and convert a few dt specific methods to their generic device_ calls. Until the next patch, ACPI based machines will fallback on random mac addresses. net: bcmgenet: Refactor bcmgenet_set_features() In preparation for unconditionally enabling TX and RX checksum offloads, refactor bcmgenet_set_features() a bit such that __netdev_update_features() during register_netdev() can make sure that features are correctly programmed during network device registration. Since we can now be called during register_netdev() with clocks gated, we need to temporarily turn them on/off in order to have a successful register programming. We also move the CRC forward setting read into bcmgenet_set_features() since priv->crc_fwd_en matters while turning on RX checksum offload, that way we are guaranteed they are in sync in case we ever add support for NETIF_F_RXFCS at some point in the future. net: bcmgenet: Add BCM2711 support The BCM2711 needs a different maximum DMA burst length. If not set accordingly a timeout in the transmit queue happens and no package can be sent. So use the new compatible to derive this value. Until now the GENET HW version was used as the platform identifier. This doesn't work with SoC-specific modifications, so introduce a proper platform data structure. net: bcmgenet: reapply manual settings to the PHY The phy_init_hw() function may reset the PHY to a configuration that does not match manual network settings stored in the phydev structure. If the phy state machine is polled rather than event driven this can create a timing hazard where the phy state machine might alter the settings stored in the phydev structure from the value read from the BMCR. This commit follows invocations of phy_init_hw() by the bcmgenet driver with invocations of the genphy_config_aneg() function to ensure that the BMCR is written to match the settings held in the phydev structure. This prevents the risk of manual settings being accidentally altered. Revert "net: bcmgenet: soft reset 40nm EPHYs before MAC init" This reverts commit 1f515486275a08a17a2c806b844cca18f7de5b34. This commit improved the chances of the umac resetting cleanly by ensuring that the PHY was restored to its normal operation prior to resetting the umac. However, there were still cases when the PHY might not be driving a Tx clock to the umac during this window (e.g. when the PHY detects no link). The previous commit now ensures that the unimac receives clocks from the MAC during its reset window so this commit is no longer needed. This commit also has an unintended negative impact on the MDIO performance of the UniMAC MDIO interface because it is used before the MDIO interrupts are reenabled, so it should be removed. net: bcmgenet: use RGMII loopback for MAC reset As noted in commit 28c2d1a7a0bf ("net: bcmgenet: enable loopback during UniMAC sw_reset") the UniMAC must be clocked while sw_reset is asserted for its state machines to reset cleanly. The transmit and receive clocks used by the UniMAC are derived from the signals used on its PHY interface. The bcmgenet MAC can be configured to work with different PHY interfaces including MII, GMII, RGMII, and Reverse MII on internal and external interfaces. Unfortunately for the UniMAC, when configured for MII the Tx clock is always driven from the PHY which places it outside of the direct control of the MAC. The earlier commit enabled a local loopback mode within the UniMAC so that the receive clock would be derived from the transmit clock which addressed the observed issue with an external GPHY disabling it's Rx clock. However, when a Tx clock is not available this loopback is insufficient. This commit implements a workaround that leverages the fact that the MAC can reliably generate all of its necessary clocking by enterring the external GPHY RGMII interface mode with the UniMAC in local loopback during the sw_reset interval. Unfortunately, this has the undesirable side efect of the RGMII GTXCLK signal being driven during the same window. In most configurations this is a benign side effect as the signal is either not routed to a pin or is already expected to drive the pin. The one exception is when an external MII PHY is expected to drive the same pin with its TX_CLK output creating output driver contention. This commit exploits the IEEE 802.3 clause 22 standard defined isolate mode to force an external MII PHY to present a high impedance on its TX_CLK output during the window to prevent any contention at the pin. The MII interface is used internally with the 40nm internal EPHY which agressively disables its clocks for power savings leading to incomplete resets of the UniMAC and many instabilities observed over the years. The workaround of this commit is expected to put an end to those problems. net: bcmgenet: reset 40nm EPHY on energy detect The EPHY integrated into the 40nm Set-Top Box devices can falsely detect energy when connected to a disabled peer interface. When the peer interface is enabled the EPHY will detect and report the link as active, but on occasion may get into a state where it is not able to exchange data with the connected GENET MAC. This issue has not been observed when the link parameters are auto-negotiated; however, it has been observed with a manually configured link. It has been empirically determined that issuing a soft reset to the EPHY when energy is detected prevents it from getting into this bad state. net: bcmgenet: soft reset 40nm EPHYs before MAC init It turns out that the "Workaround for putting the PHY in IDDQ mode" used by the internal EPHYs on 40nm Set-Top Box chips when powering down puts the interface to the GENET MAC in a state that can cause subsequent MAC resets to be incomplete. Rather than restore the forced soft reset when powering up internal PHYs, this commit moves the invocation of phy_init_hw earlier in the MAC initialization sequence to just before the MAC reset in the open and resume functions. This allows the interface to be stable and allows the MAC resets to be successful. The bcmgenet_mii_probe() function is split in two to accommodate this. The new function bcmgenet_mii_connect() handles the first half of the functionality before the MAC initialization, and the bcmgenet_mii_config() function is extended to provide the remaining PHY configuration following the MAC initialization. This commit removes that initialization to restore the proper functionality. net: move skb->xmit_more hint to softnet data There are two reasons for this. First, the xmit_more flag conceptually doesn't fit into the skb, as xmit_more is not a property related to the skb. Its only a hint to the driver that the stack is about to transmit another packet immediately. Second, it was only done this way to not have to pass another argument to ndo_start_xmit(). We can place xmit_more in the softnet data, next to the device recursion. The recursion counter is already written to on each transmit. The "more" indicator is placed right next to it. Drivers can use the netdev_xmit_more() helper instead of skb->xmit_more to check the "more packets coming" hint. skb->xmit_more is retained (but always 0) to not cause build breakage. This change takes care of the simple s/skb->xmit_more/netdev_xmit_more()/ conversions. Remaining drivers are converted in the next patches. net: bcmgenet: protect stop from timeout A timing hazard exists when the network interface is stopped that allows a watchdog timeout to be processed by a separate core in parallel. This creates the potential for the timeout handler to wake the queues while the driver is shutting down, or access registers after their clocks have been removed. The more common case is that the watchdog timeout will produce a warning message which doesn't lead to a crash. The chances of this are greatly increased by the fact that bcmgenet_netif_stop stops the transmit queues which can easily precipitate a watchdog time- out because of stale trans_start data in the queues. This commit corrects the behavior by ensuring that the watchdog timeout is disabled before enterring bcmgenet_netif_stop. There are currently only two users of the bcmgenet_netif_stop function: close and suspend. The close case already handles the issue by exiting the RUNNING state before invoking the driver close service. The suspend case now performs the netif_device_detach to exit the PRESENT state before the call to bcmgenet_netif_stop rather than after it. These behaviors prevent any future scheduling of the driver timeout service during the window. The netif_tx_stop_all_queues function in bcmgenet_netif_stop is replaced with netif_tx_disable to ensure synchronization with any transmit or timeout threads that may already be executing on other cores. For symmetry, the netif_device_attach call upon resume is moved to after the call to bcmgenet_netif_start. Since it wakes the transmit queues it is not necessary to invoke netif_tx_start_all_queues from bcmgenet_netif_start so it is moved into the driver open service. The interrupts can still be enabled in the functions bcmgenet_enable_tx_napi() and bcmgenet_enable_rx_napi(), but use the ring context int_enable() method to keep the functionality consistent and the code cleaner. net: bcmgenet: enable loopback during UniMAC sw_reset It is necessary for the UniMAC to be clocked at least 5 cycles while the sw_reset is asserted to ensure a clean reset. It was discovered that this condition was not being met when connected to an external RGMII PHY that disabled the Rx clock in the Power Save state. This commit modifies the reset_umac function to place the (RG)MII interface into a local loopback mode where the Rx clock comes from the GENET sourced Tx clk during the sw_reset to ensure the presence and stability of the clock. In addition, it turns out that the sw_reset of the UniMAC is not self clearing, but this was masked by a bug in the timeout code. The sw_reset is now explicitly cleared by zeroing the UMAC_CMD register before returning from reset_umac which makes it no longer necessary to do so in init_umac and makes the clearing of CMD_TX_EN and CMD_RX_EN by umac_enable_set redundant. The timeout code (and its associated bug) are removed so reset_umac no longer needs to return a result, and that means init_umac that calls reset_umac does not need to as well. This works correctly for an ARM LE kernel (default) but fails miserably on an ARM BE (BE8) kernel where registers are kept little endian, so replace uses with {read,write}l_relaxed here which is what we want because this is all performance sensitive code. net: bcmgenet: Free skb after last Tx frag Since the skb is attached to the first control block of a fragmented skb it is possible that the skb could be freed when reclaiming that control block before all fragments of the skb have been consumed by the hardware and unmapped. This commit introduces first_cb and last_cb pointers to the skb control block used by the driver to keep track of which transmit control blocks within a transmit ring are the first and last ones associated with the skb. It then splits the bcmgenet_free_cb() function into transmit (bcmgenet_free_tx_cb) and receive (bcmgenet_free_rx_cb) versions that can handle the unmapping of dma mapped memory and cleaning up the corresponding control block structure so that the skb is only freed after the last associated transmit control block is reclaimed. Since the PHY is powered up at reset this has not been a problem. net: bcmgenet: cleanup for dmadesc_set() dmadesc_set() is used for setting the Tx buffer DMA address, length, and status bits on a Tx ring descriptor when a frame is being Tx'ed. Always set the Tx buffer DMA address first, before updating the length and status bits, i.e. giving the Tx descriptor to the hardware. The reason this is a cleanup rather than a fix is that the hardware won't transmit anything from a Tx ring until the TDMA producer index has been incremented. As long as the dmadesc_set() writes complete before the TDMA producer index write, life is good. net: bcmgenet: fix skb_len in bcmgenet_xmit_single() skb_len needs to be skb_headlen(skb) in bcmgenet_xmit_single(). Fragmented skbs can have only Ethernet + IP + TCP headers (14+20+20=54 bytes) in the linear buffer, followed by the rest in fragments. Bumping skb_len to ETH_ZLEN would be incorrect for this case, as it would introduce garbage between TCP header and the fragment data. This also works with regular/non-fragmented small packets < ETH_ZLEN bytes. Successfully tested this on GENETv3 with 42-byte ARP frames. Add bytes_compl local variable to __bcmgenet_tx_reclaim() to collect transmitted bytes. dev->stats updates can then be moved outside the while-loop. bytes_compl is also needed for future BQL support. 2. When bcmgenet device uses Tx checksum offload, each transmitted skb gets an extra 64-byte header prepended to it. Before this header is prepended to the skb, we need to save the skb "wire" length in GENET_CB(skb)->bytes_sent, so that proper Tx bytes accounting can be done in __bcmgenet_tx_reclaim(). 3. skb->len covers the entire length of skb, whether it is linear or fragmented. Thus, when we clean the fragments, do not increase transmitted bytes. net: bcmgenet: Implement TX coalescing control knobs Configuring the ethtool tx-frames property, which translates into N packets before a TX interrupt is the simplest configuration scheme because it requires no locking neither at the softare nor hardware level, and is completely indepedent from the link speed. Since ethtool does not allow per-tx queue coalescing parameters, we apply the same setting to any transmit queue. We can no longer enable the BDONE/PDONE interrupts as those would fire for each packet/buffer received, which would defeat the MBDONE interrupt purpose. The MBDONE interrupt is guaranteed to correspond to a PDONE/BDONE interrupt when the threshold is set to 1, but offers interrupt coalescing when the value is > 1. Since the HW is configured to generate an interrupt when the ring becomes emtpy, we have to deny any timeout/timer settings coming from user-space to indicate we can only generate an interrupt very <N> packets. net: bcmgenet: Delay PHY initialization to bcmgenet_open() We are currently doing a full PHY initialization and even starting the pHY state machine during bcmgenet_mii_init() which is executed in the driver's probe function. This is convenient to determine whether we can attach to a proper PHY device but comes at the expense of spending up to 10ms per MDIO transactions (to reach the waitqueue timeout), which slows things down. This also creates a sitaution where we end-up attaching twice to the PHY, which is not quite correct either. Fix this by moving bcmgenet_mii_probe() into bcmgenet_open() and update its error path accordingly. Avoid printing the message "attached PHY at address 1 [...]" every time we bring up/down the interface and remove this print since it duplicates what the PHY driver already does for us. net: bcmgenet: Determine PHY type before scanning MDIO bus Our internal GPHY might be powered off before we attempt scanning the MDIO bus and bind a driver to it. The way we are currently determining whether a PHY is internal or not is done *after* we have successfully matched its driver. If the PHY is powered down, it will not respond to the MDIO bus, so we will not be able to bind a driver to it. Our Device Tree for GENET interfaces specifies a "phy-mode" value: "internal" which tells if this internal uses an internal PHY or not. If of_get_phy_mode() fails to parse the 'phy-mode' property, do an additional manual lookup, and if we find "internal" set the corresponding internal variable accordingly. Replace all uses of phy_is_internal() with a check against priv->internal_phy to avoid having to rely on whether or not priv->phydev is set correctly. net: bcmgenet: Power on integrated GPHY in bcmgenet_power_up() We are currently disabling the GPHY interface during bcmgenet_close(), and attempting to power it back on during bcmgenet_open(). This works fine for the first time, because we called bcmgenet_mii_config() which took care of enabling the interface, however, bcmgenet_power_up() really needs to power on the GPHY for correctness. This will be particularly important as we want to move bcmgenet_mii_probe() down to bcmgenet_open() to avoid seeing the "PHY already attached" message. net: bcmgenet: Remove excessive PHY reset We are currently issuing multiple PHY resets during a suspend/resume, first during bcmgenet_power_up() which does a hardware reset, then a software reset by calling bcmgenet_mii_reset(). This is both unnecessary and can take as long as 10ms per MDIO transactions while we re-apply workarounds because we do not yet have MDIO interrupts enabled. phy_resume() takes care of re-apply our workarounds in case we need any, and bcmgenet_power_up() does a PHY hardware reset, all of this is more than enough to guarantee that the PHY operates correctly. net: bcmgenet: enable MoCA link state change detection Currently, MoCA fixed PHYs are always in link-up state, regardless of whether the link is actually up or not. Add code to properly detect MoCA link state changes and to reflect the new state in MoCA fixed PHY. Only GENET V3 and V4 MACs are capable of detecting MoCA link state changes. The code works as follows: 1. GENET MAC detects MoCA link state change and issues UMAC_IRQ_LINK_UP or UMAC_IRQ_LINK_DOWN interrupt. 2. Link up/down interrupt is processed in bcmgenet_irq_task(), which calls phy_mac_interrupt(). 3. phy_mac_interrupt() updates the fixed PHY phydev->link and kicks the PHY state machine. 4. PHY state machine proceeds to read the fixed PHY link status register. 5. When the fixed PHY link status register is being read, the new function bcmgenet_fixed_phy_link_update() gets called. It copies the fixed PHY phydev->link value to the fixed PHY status->link. 6. PHY state machine receives the new link state of the fixed PHY. 7. However, bcmgenet_rx_refill() might fail to allocate a new Rx skb, thus leaving a hole on the Rx queue where no valid Rx buffer exists. To eliminate this situation: 1. Rewrite bcmgenet_rx_refill() to retain the current Rx skb on the Rx queue if a new replacement Rx skb can't be allocated and DMA-mapped. In this case, the data on the current Rx skb is effectively dropped. 2. Modify bcmgenet_desc_rx() to call bcmgenet_rx_refill() at the top of Rx packet processing loop, so that the new replacement Rx skb is already in place before the current Rx skb is processed. These statistics are read from the hardware MIB counters, such that bcmgenet_update_mib_counters() was trying to read from a non-existing MIB offset for these counters. Re-apply this configuration anytime we call bcmgenet_open() to make sure our port multiplexer is properly configured to match the PHY interface. Since we are now calling bcmgenet_mii_config() everytime bcmgenet_open() is called, make sure we only print the message during initialization time not to pollute the console. net: bcmgenet: connect and disconnect from the PHY state machine phy_disconnect() is the only way to guarantee that we are not going to schedule more work on the PHY state machine workqueue for that particular PHY device. This fixes an issue where a network interface was suspended prior to a system suspend/resume cycle and would then be resumed as part of mdio_bus_resume(), since the GENET interface clocks would have been disabled, this basically resulted in bus errors to appear since we are invoking the GENET driver adjust_link() callback. net: bcmgenet: fix TX reclaim accounting for fragments The GENET driver supports SKB fragments, and succeeds in transmitting them properly, but when reclaiming these transmitted fragments, we will only update the count of free buffer descriptors by 1, even for SKBs with fragments. This leads to the networking stack thinking it has more room than the hardware has when pushing new SKBs, and backing off consequently because we return NETDEV_TX_BUSY. Fix this by accounting for the SKB nr_frags plus one (itself) and update ring->free_bds accordingly with that value for each iteration loop in __bcmgenet_tx_reclaim(). net: bcmgenet: correctly resume adapter from Wake-on-LAN In case we configured the adapter to be a wake up source from Wake-on-LAN, but we never actually woke up using Wake-on-LAN, we will leave the adapter in MagicPacket matching mode, which prevents any other type of packets from reaching the RX engine. Fix this by calling bcmgenet_power_up() with GENET_POWER_WOL_MAGIC to restore the adapter configuration in bcmgenet_resume(). The second problem we had was an imbalanced clock disabling in bcmgenet_wol_resume(), the Wake-on-LAN slow clock is only enabled in bcmgenet_suspend() if we configured Wake-on-LAN, yet we unconditionally disabled the clock in bcmgenet_wol_resume(). net: bcmgenet: set RBUF_SKIP_FCS based on UniMAC CRC forwarding When the UniMAC block is configured to forward the CRC as part of the Ethernet frame (priv->crc_fwd_en, set by default), enabling the hardware RX checksum block unveiled that the dma_rxchk_bit was never set in the per-packet status bits (dma_flag in bcmgenet_desc_rx). This would make the chksum_ok variable to be never set to 1, and the networking stack would have to compute the packet checksums, which takes a substantial amount of time. In order for the RXCHK block to properly compute the packet checksum in hardware, we also need to set the RBUF_SKIP_FCS bit accordingly. net: bcmgenet: manipulate netdev_queue directly Instead of always invoking netdev_get_tx_queue() in bcmgenet_xmit() and bcmgenet_tx_reclaim(), just get the corresponding netdev_queue pointer once and for all and manipulate it throughout bcmgenet_xmit() and bcmgenet_tx_reclaim().
