General further adoption of SPDX licensing ID tags. Mainly focus on files that use BSD 3-Clause license. The Software Package Data Exchange (SPDX) group provides a specification to make it easier for automated tools to detect and summarize well known opensource licenses. We are gradually adopting the specification, noting that the tags are considered only advisory and do not, in any way, superceed or replace the license texts. Special thanks to Wind River for providing access to "The Duke of Highlander" tool: an older (2014) run over FreeBSD tree was useful as a starting point.

Renumber copyright clause 4 Renumber cluase 4 to 3, per what everybody else did when BSD granted them permission to remove clause 3. My insistance on keeping the same numbering for legal reasons is too pedantic, so give up on that point. sh: Allow kill %job on jobs started without job control. When killing a %job started without job control, kill all processes in it. As with process groups and zombies, if any process in the job can be killed or has already terminated, the command is successful. This also fixes occasional failures of the builtins/kill1.0 test.

sh: Add kill builtin. This allows specifying a %job (which is equivalent to the corresponding process group). Additionally, it improves reliability of kill from sh in high-load situations and ensures "kill" finds the correct utility regardless of PATH, as required by POSIX (unless the undocumented %builtin mechanism is used). Side effect: fatal errors (any error other than kill(2) failure) now return exit status 2 instead of 1. (This is consistent with other sh builtins, but not in NetBSD.) Code size increases about 1K on i386. Obtained from: NetBSD

sh: Add a function to print warnings (with command name and newline). This is like error() but without raising an exception. It is particularly useful as a replacement for the warnx macro in bltin/bltin.h.

sh: Make warnings in the printf builtin non-fatal, like in the program. The #define for warnx now behaves much like the libc function (except that it uses sh command name and output). Also, it now uses C99 __VA_ARGS__ so there is no need for three different macros for 0, 1 or 2 parameters.

Create the altix project branch. The altix project will add support for the SGI Altix 350 to FreeBSD/ia64. The hardware used for porting is a two-module system, consisting of a base compute module and a CPU expansion module. SGI's NUMAFlex architecture can be an excellent platform to test CPU affinity and NUMA-aware features in FreeBSD.

Fixed warnx format errors in printf and csh, and snprintf format errors in sh, by using separate macros for the 1, 2 and 3-arg calls to warnx. (The 3-arg warnx macro in sh/bltin/bltin.h used to require bogus dummy args.)

Merge of 4.4-Lite2 sh source, plus some gcc -Wall cleaning. This is a merge of parallel duplicate work by Steve Price and myself. :-] There are some changes to the build that are my fault... mkinit.c was trying (poorly) to duplicate some of the work that make(1) is designed to do. The Makefile hackery is my fault too, the depend list was incomplete because of some explicit OBJS+= entries, so mkdep wasn't picking up their source file #includes. This closes a pile of /bin/sh PR's, but not all of them.. Submitted by: Steve Price <steve@bonsai.hiwaay.net>, peter
